Planning for Your Future Library Spaces
Facilities Masterplan
In April 2025, the Library introduced the Facilities Masterplan, a guide for building updates shaped by the ideas and priorities shared by community members and Library staff. This document outlines recommended improvements to both Library locations that will support increased functionality, accessibility, and the Library’s continued role as a welcoming community hub.
The Facilities Masterplan includes six floor plan images that identify priority improvements and long-term opportunities to prepare FCL spaces for the future. Areas of focus include:
-
Renovating outdated restrooms
-
Improving accessibility and wayfinding
-
Expanding outdoor gathering and play spaces
-
Creating new flexible study and collaboration areas
The Masterplan reflects many possibilities for the future. It will serve as a guide rather than a fixed construction plan. Future projects may evolve based on community needs and additional input from residents.

Phase One Renovations Beginning in 2026
The Library will complete improvements in phases. Phase One focuses on addressing essential infrastructure needs and creating more gathering and study spaces that our community has consistently identified as priorities.
Phase One renovation projects at both buildings are scheduled to begin in 2026. A more detailed project timeline will be shared in early 2026.
All Phase One projects—except the outdoor study garden at the Farmington Hills location—will be funded through the Library's general operating budget. The Farmington Friends of the Library have pledged to raise funds for the study garden.
