Farmington Community Library will be hosting Through Their Eyes: Understanding Factors Salient to Firearm Violence in Asian American Communities, an eye-opening exhibition that uses photography, personal storytelling, and community-driven research to highlight the impacts of firearm violence in Asian Americans and surrounding communities throughout Michigan.

The exhibit will be on display May 3-31 on the main level of the FCL Farmington Hills location (32737 W. 12 Mile Rd.).

About the Photovoice Exhibit:

This exhibit is part of an NIH-funded study, Adaptable Community-Engaged Intervention for Violence Prevention: Michigan Model, led by Eastern Michigan University’s Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies (CHDIS) and the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP).

The project focuses on addressing firearm violence in Asian Americans and surrounding communities throughout Michigan by engaging community members in the process of storytelling through the lens of photography. Participants used photovoice—a method that blends visual imagery with personal reflections—to share their unique perspectives on the root causes and protective factors related to firearm violence in their neighborhoods.

These captivating images reveal the powerful narratives and lived experiences of individuals who are directly impacted by this pressing issue. This exhibit serves as a call-to-action to reflect, engage, and collaborate as we work together to create safer, more resilient communities in Michigan.
